The Gambia Under-17 team, the Baby Scorpions, will leave Banjul today for this weekend’s crunch game against Sierra Leone in Freetown.
The Scorpions, who are eyeing their second appearance in the continental youth competition beat Sierra Leone 4-1 in the first leg match played in Banjul close to a fortnight ago in the qualifiers for the Championship proper to be hosted in Algeria early next year.
In a clear case of taking nothing for granted, a 28-man contingent comprising 18 players will leave Banjul to finalise preparation for the tie, which is scheduled for Saturday, September 13.
There have not been any major changes in Gambia’s Egyptian coach Tarik Siagy squad, though the same cannot be said of his starting line-up for the game.
Unless the unexpected happens, the Baby Scorpions are the favourites to pull through to meet the winner in the Ghana-Libya tie for the final qualifying match.
Ghana already put their best foot forward in the first leg by beating their opponents 3-0 in Accra.
