Wednesday, April 18, 2007
A police raid on suspected criminals yesterday resulted in the nabbing of several men at London Corner at about 4.00am. The men were arraigned before Magistrate Pa Harry Jammeh at 12:00 noon at the Kanifing Magistrates’ Court.

According to Commissioner Gibba, the 58 suspected bandits including Amadou Bidwell, otherwise known as Boy Bansang, were apprehended in the early hours of yesterday. Presiding over the court, Magistrate Jammeh ordered the remand of the suspects for a month before the next hearing.

According to the police it is believed that the suspects have a hideout in London Corner where they converge to launch attacks on innocent people. Commissioner Gibba further intimated that most of the suspected criminals live in Banjul but always come to London Corner to launch their operations.

It is reported that the police in the Kombos have for some time resolved to crack down on the suspects.

The latest onslaught against organised crime comes on the heels of the arrest and consequent sentencing of some hardcore robbers.
