The Social Project of Kerewan Dumbokono, a project established in Hamburg, Germany, by a Gambian based in Germany, Mr. Mawdo Marenah, recently donated medical items to the Bansang Hospital, at a ceremony held at the hospital grounds.

The donated items included a double screen x-ray, wheel chairs, and physiotherapy equipment worth over one hundred thousand dalasis.

Speaking at the handing over ceremony, Mr. Mawdo Marenah gave a brief history of the project, adding that it is aimed at assisting the health sector. “We have been assisting the hospitals since 1999 with materials like beds and screening machines,” he said.

He pointed out that the project also assists the Bansang hospital with sophisticated machines that will help limit referrals of patients to RVTH. He said that every year, in the month of March, he always organises a programme at Hamburg to spell out the aims and objectives of the project. He called on the administration of the hospital to list down the items needed in the hospital assistance and urged them to make the best use of the donated equipment.

Baboucarr Jammeh, Chief Executive Officer of the Bansang Hospital, thanked Mawdo Marenah for his generosity. He described Mr. Marenah as a patriotic Gambian and assured him that the donated items will go a long way in complementing government’s efforts of providing equipment for the hospital.

He emphasised that the hospital has been receiving several donations from Mr. Marenah and therefore called on other Gambians abroad to emulate him.

Wandifa Samateh, Principal Nursing Officer, Bansang Hospital said Bansang hospital is among the oldest hospitals in the country covering a large catchments area. He asserted that the hospital refers patients to RVTH due to lack of materials but noted that with these materials, it will greatly help them address the situation.

Other speakers at the ceremony included Dodou Joof, Head of the X-Ray department and Samba Binta Jallow, Head of the Auxiliary staff.
