Criminal Proceedings in Drug Trial Underway

Monday, November 19, 2007

The Brikama Magistrates’ Court in Western Region last Thursday kicked off criminal proceedings in a drug case against one Wuyeh Samura.

Wuyeh was arrested by the police in May of this year in Tanji village following a tip-off that he was in possession of an illegal drug.

Testifying before magistrate Edrisa Mbai on Thursday as the prosecution opened their case, the first prosecution witness, Momodou Jallow, told the court that the accused was arrested on 29 May 2007, and whisked away to Tujereng police station.

“At the station, a search was conducted on him and a substance suspected to be marijuana was found on him. He was later charged and placed under custody. On May 15, he was escorted to NDEA Headquarters in Banjul for the weighing of the suspected drug, which weighed 560g. The analytical report showed that the substance is a drug,” narrated Jallow who is, himself, a drug police.

The case continues.
