Another Football Strips for Airport FC

Airport  FC of Essau has again for the second time in barely two months benefited from an assortment of football gears donated by Ousman Marong a Gambian based in the UK. The goods comprised of shirts, shorts, socks and footballs.

It will be recalled that earlier in December 2007, the club benefited from a similar gesture from former coach Adama Sonko also in Sojourn in the UK and presently coaching the U-17 Woodles Academy in Warwick.

In appreciation of the gesture, a committee was set up to organised a four team  knock-out tournament coordinated by Bakary B Baldeh.  Inorder to speed up the tournament, the organising committee brought together two teams to form one so as to strengthen each team’s build up.

Napoleons and Gunners were joined while the beneficiaries Airport and Kriss cross   formed the other team. Taalibi  joined with Koingbi while Youngster Deego FC paired with Everton.

In the finals played on Sunday 13 January, Napoleons Gunners emerged champions after eating Airport /Kriss Cross at the narrowest margin of one nil from a glancing header by Abdou Sonko in the 62nd minute. As champions , Napoleons/ Gunners pocketed D3000.00 while the runners up Airport/Kriss Cross went home with D25000 as consolation.

According to Ousman Marong, sole sponsor of the tournament, the knockout competition is intended to be a annual event  and called on all players and officials to further cement their ties of camadership and continued lifting the standards of grass root football.

The final was witnessed by fans and football lovers across Barra, Esssau and Mayamba.
