The Gambia Football Association U-17 selection team tournament aimed at identifying feature players for the national U-17 team kicked off last weekend.
The Upper River Region and Central River Region U-17 selection sides, who played the opener on Saturday at the Basse mini Stadium, played out a goal-less draw.
Mr. Kebba Masanneh Ceesay, Vice Chairman of the GFA technical committee, speaking to our correspondent in Basse, said the Technicians are on the ground to make observations and assessments regarding the best players. Those selected during the tournament will be brought together for training and the final selection made.
Mr Ceesay said the technicians are looking at the techniques, tactics, physical and other psychological aspects as the criteria for the selection process.
Lower River Region beat North Bank Region 1-0 in Sunday’s encounter.
Seedy MB Kinteh, President of the Gambia Football Association, said the results of the tournament are not significant but highlighted that the tournament is aimed at identifying the young talented players nation-wide who will be brought together by the coach for training. At this point a final selection will be made.
As part of the selection tournament, Banjul will take on Bakau at the Serrekunda West Mini Stadium on Thursday the 27th of December.
Serrekunda East will host Serrekunda West at Serekunda East on Friday December 28, while on Saturday December 29, Sukuta will clash with Gunjur at Serrekunda West.
Brikama will meet Lamin on Sunday December 30 at Serrekunda East.
