At least four people were on Thursday 21st February, killed in a fire in Gerreh Village in Lower Fulladou West District CRR South. The fire, which emanated from the bush, claimed the lives of four victims out of the six people affected, the three that died instantly were Kano Kanteh, Amadou Nyang and Kawsu Kinteh. But later Baba Saidy died in Bansang and the remaining two were admitted at Bansang Hospital.
Speaking on behalf of the Regional Disaster Management Committee the Deputy Governor Momodou Katim Touray expressed his sympathy to the affected families as no one prays to have such a disaster. Mr. Touray assured the families of the victims that they will support them within their limited resources. He then appealed to philanthropists and NGOs, to support the families.
He further pointed out that “We are thankful to the Government for establishing National Disaster Management Committee. This enhances responses to disaster at a regional level and also co-ordinates the provision of relief assistance to disaster victims,” he said. He thanked and commended the security for the untiring effort they had rendered during the incident.
