Modou Njie of Kanifing South was yesterday convicted and sentenced to three months mandatory jail term with hard labour for being in possession of a stolen pedal bicycle by Magistrate Pa Harry Jammeh of the Kanifing Magistrates’ Court.

When the charge sheet was read to him, Modou Njie pleaded guilty and asked the court for mercy.

He told the court that he stole the said bicycle in Banjul at Hagan Street at a programme in the church. The accused further told the court that he was once convicted and sentenced to Mile two for three weeks for stealing.

According to the Police Prosecutor, Corporal Touray, the said incident happened on the 6th May 2007. He said the accused was found with the said bicycle at Jimpex, where he was in the process of selling it.

Magistrate Jammeh in his judgement said “base on the facts before the court, I hereby sentenced you to three months mandatory jail term with hard labour”.

He also ruled that the bicycle be kept by the court for the mean time and if the owner is not found, it will be donated to one of the institutions.
