The Kanifing Magistrates’ Court, presided over by Moses Richards, recently dished out an 18-year jail term to a Cameroonian, Ketcha Jean Sonor, after admitting guilt for obtaining D18,000 from one Nasir Njie on the pretext of tripling it to D36,000.
According to Sonor, he used part of the D18,000 on his girlfriend as well as to pay his bills for food and motel accommodation. He however elucidated that he had already refunded Nasir D6,000 at the CID office in Serekunda.
He was, therefore, sentenced to pay a fine of D2500. He was also ordered to compensate Nasir with the sum of D12,000 and would be deported after serving his jail term.
The Inspector General of Police was represented by 870 Touray.
