Enssa Badjie, Police Commissioner for Western Region, yesterday testified in the on-going D0.5 million theft case involving one Alieu Faye, former accountant of Stop Step Pharmacy and Jays Electrical Holding, presided over by Principal Magistrate Moses Richards of the Kanifing Magistrates’ Court.

Commissioner Badjie told the court that on 2nd  May 2007, while he was at the Kairaba Police Station as the then Officer Commanding CID, in the Kanifing Municipality, he received a phone call from one Mr. Emanuel, who informed him about the alleged theft case involving the accused person. “Mr. Emanuel explained briefly how the theft happened and I asked him to meet me at Kairaba Police Station. From there we left for the scene of the alleged theft,” he stated.

According to Police Commissioner Badjie, he also called the CID personnel in Serrekunda and ordered them to meet him at the scene of the crime, around Jafar in Old Jeshwang, along the Banjul-Serrekunda High Way. He noted that upon arrival at the scene of the crime, they did not see the accused neither did they see the vehicle that the accused was driving at the time.

He said on their way to West Field, they saw the accused in his vehicle around Julbrew.

“We then went and packed right beside the accused’s vehicle, together with my men from Serrekunda Police CID Office. We escorted the accused to the scene of the alleged theft in Old Jeshwang”, he added.

Commissioner Badjie said upon arrival at the scene for the second time, the accused informed them that the money was not with him.

Commissioner Badjie told the court that they also inspected the accused person’s vehicle to see whether there was any damage done to the windscreens, but none of the screens were broken. “We finally arrested the accused and took him to Serrekunda Police Station”, he reveled.
