Magistrate Warns Members of the Public

Magistrate Pa Harry Jammeh of the Kanifing Magistrates’ Court yesterday issued a serious warning to members of the public who attend the ongoing murder case against Tabara Samba to desist from insulting her or else risk arrest and remand at Mile 2.

Tabara Samba has been standing trial at the Kanifing Magistrates’ Court for allegedly causing the death of her late husband, Ebrima Nyan, by pouring hot oil on him sometime in March. Magistrate Jammeh reasoned that the accused has not yet been proven guilty of the offence she has been charged with.

On the resumption of the case, Lawyer Amie Joof-Conteh, who said she was representing the accused together with Lawyer Farage, said they were ready to cross-examine the witnesses.

At that point Chief Superintendent Dibba informed the court that one of the witnesses, the photographer, was already in court and could be cross-examined but Lawyer Joof-Conteh said that they would rather start the cross-examination with other witnesses who were not in court at that moment and engage the photographer afterwards.

Lawyer Amie Joof-Conteh then enquired if the scene of the alleged crime had been secured and the prosecutor replied in the positive. However the prosecution stated that they had photographs of the said incident.

The defence thus applied for the court to visit the scene of the incident and the application was granted.

The case was adjourned to 23rd, 24th, 25th and 30th July 2007 for continuation.
