Former School Accountant Convicted

Monday, July 9, 2007
Mass Suso, former accountant at St. Joseph Ex-pupils’ Nursery and Primary School, was this week brought before magistrate Pa Harry Jammeh of the Kanifing Magistrates’ Court for stealing two mobile phones valued at D9000.

The phones were the properties of one Tony William and Yassin Dem.

When the charge sheet was read to him, he pleaded not guilty but later changed his not guilty plea to guilty.

The complainant, Tony William, told the court that the accused had surrendered the mobile phones and as a result, he would like to withdraw the case.

Magistrate Pa Harry Jammeh however told Tony that the accused was brought to the court by the state and the case must proceed. He, therefore, sentenced Suso to serve three weeks in prisons.

It would be recalled that Suso was earlier charged with stealing over D300,000 while he was the accountant at St. Joseph Ex-pupils’ Nursery and Primary School, an allegation he denied. That case was presided over by former principal magistrate Kebba Sanyang of the Kanifing Magistrates’ Court.

According to court sources, the case was later transferred to the High Court in Banjul.
