The Gambia National Transport Cooperative Association (GNTCA) has been allocated a plot of 1,881 square meter land in Kanifing, along Jimpex Road, next to former GPTC extension. This space will henceforth serve as a car park.

This important move emanated from an agreement between the Department of Local Government and Lands, Gambia Public Transport Cooperation (GPTC), Kanifing Municipal Council (KMC), Department of Interior, Physical Planning, Serrekunda Market Women's Association and the Gambia National Transport Control Association. In an interview with the Daily Observer, Daddy Sowe, President of the Gambia National Transport Control Association confirmed the allocation of the land as true. He added that all commercial vehicles, using roads passing through Abuko, Tabokoto, Serrekunda and Bakau will all stop at the new garage.

"Concerning those coming or going to Banjul, will also stop at the newly allocated car park, located at the Jimpex Road in Kanifing. Passengers who intend to go to Tabokoto will have the opportunity to find their way there," he stated .Consequently, Mr. Sowe disclosed that the current garage at Westfield is to be relocated to the new car cark park on the Jimpex Road in Kanifing, in order to facilitate the traffic regulation of the Police.

According to him, the current Westfield car park is not the right place for commercial vehicles, as it is a meeting centre for all those vehicles going to and fro: Tabokoto, Banjul, Serrekunda and Bakau. Regularly the area is confronted with traffic congestion, especially in the morning and 4.00 pm in the afternoon. He added that such a situation subsequently causes confrontation between the police and drivers.

GNTCA boss seized the opportunity to commend the KMC authorities to make the project a reality, as they are partners in development. Mr. Sowe further noted that, despite the changes in the relocation of the garage, the tariffs of the destinations are still the same.

"No changes have been made on that", he hinted. He then indicated that the new garage will facilitate the travelling of all passengers, especially those travelling to Banjul in the morning, adding that the organisation is set to provide good services to passengers and facilitate their movements. Mr Sowe further appealed to the general public for any inconvenience cause. He finally urged the passengers and drivers to cooperate with each other.
