Ultimatum for defendant

Monday, September 8, 2008
The Kanifing Magistrates Court, presided over by Senior Magistrate Abdoulie A Mbacke, has given a two-month ultimatum to a defendant, Alieu Secka, to pay Ajaratou Isatou Kagigo Joof the sum of D11,900, following a judgement delivered in favour of the plaintiff.

The defendant had earlier on changed his plea from not guilty to guilty, after having previously denied the charges.

At that juncture, the presiding magistrate told the defendant that he had wasted the court’s and plaintiff’s time.

He further told him “if you knew that you owed the plaintiff, you should have admitted it since the initial stages of the case”.

He ordered him to pay D5,450 at the end of September and complete the rest at the end of the following month.

He also warned the defendant to pay the said amount in two months time, noting that if he fails to pay the sum at the end of the month, he will have to pay the entire sum at once.
Of the said sum, D200 should be paid to the plaintiff as compensation.
