Wednesday, March 21, 2007
A Guide book entitled “Kanilai - A Guide to Heritage sites” which seeks to promote Eco and Cultural Tourism in and around Kanilai village, the birth place of the Gambian leader President Yahya Jammeh will be launched on Thursday March 22, 2007 at 4 pm at the Paradise Suites Hotel.

The event has been shifted from the initial venue of Kanilai to the Paradise Suites Hotel.

The Guide Book sponsored by President Jammeh, demonstrates the President’s interest and effort in the promotion of Eco and Cultural Tourism in The Gambia. President Jammeh’s personal involvement, guidance and direction gave the author of the guide, a staff of the National Council for Arts and Culture, Mr Demba Sanneh, the opportunity and courage to undertake the research, which resulted in the production of this valuable brochure.

The Heritage Sites, mentioned in the guide are located in the village of Bwiam, Kankuntu, Dobong, Sita, Jakoi Sibirik, Kusamai and Kanilai. These villages form an Eco Tourism trial spreading within a radius of 30 kilometres around Kanilai.

These areas are worthy of Tourist attraction as they are part of the hinterland of The Gambia whose population live in their natural environment surrounded by rich authentic culture.
