A press release from the Kerewan Area Council (KAC) indicates that the municipality has ‘offered scholarships to 110 students studying in 33 learning institutions, including Madarassas throughout the country’.

The Municipal institution has already made full payments for the scholarships, amounting to 125,000 dalasis for the current academic year 2006/2007.

Resolutely decided to put its action into continuity, the press release went on to recall that during the 2005/2006 academic year, 93 students were able to attend classes on a scholarship granted by KAC.

‘This effort is in recognition of the importance of education in national development, and therefore the need to provide the necessary financial and moral support to parents who could not maintain their children at the various levels of their educational career’, the release stated.

In a similar vein, KAC has extended its welfare services by donating 25,000 dalasis to North Bank Regional Rehabilitation Committee (RRC), through GOVI’s Executive Director on Tuesday 17, 2007.

Present at the occasion, were Regional Governor, Chairman of the Area Council, Chief Executive and the Chairman of RRC, who doubles as the District Chief of the Lower Badibu, all of whom expressed the role of the visually-impaired people in national development.
