NYC Award Partners, Donors and Individuals

The National Youth Council of The Gambia (NYC) over the weekend awarded certificates of appreciation to their partners, donors and individuals who have championed the cause of youth and been instrumental to the success of the council and youth activities in the country. The event was the first of its kind in the history of NYC and was held at the Joint Officer’s Mess in Kotu.

It was attended by recipients and several youths.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Malick Ceesay the Executive Secretary of the National Youth Council described the event as a mile stone in the life of his council. He thanked President Jammeh who was also awarded for empowering the young people of The Gambia. This he said is manifested in the establishment of NYC, National Youth Service Scheme, and Gamjob among others. He thanked Africell for sponsoring the award ceremony.

Ms Amie Burry Mbye Vice Chairperson of NYC revealed that all youth organizations that were certified have met all the criteria of registering with the council. She advised young people to desist from immoral behaviors and illegal migration. She encouraged other youth groups to also register with NYC to gain recognition and numerous benefits.

Deputizing the Managing Director of Africell, Mr. Peter Braima said the initiative is part of his company’s corporate social responsibility and young people are not exceptional in this. He applauded the young people of The Gambia for their dedication ad hard work.

Mass Axi Gye Secretary of State for Youth and Sports said the event was important as it could serve as a motivation to benefactors. He used the opportunity to remind those gathered about this years National Youth Conference and Festival NAYCONF to be held in North Bank Region. His speech was read on his behalf by his Permanent Secretary. Abdoulie Faye Program Officer NYC chaired the ceremony.
