Danish Friends Donate Learning Materials to Kuntaur Upper Basic School

Helsingore School in Denmark on Wednesday 24th January presented learning materials to Kuntaur Upper Basic School in Niani District CRD North. The donated materials worth over hundred thousand dalasis (D100,000,00) and donated materials include: metal and woodwork tools, basket balls, volley balls, footballs, solar system materials, generator spare parts, and learning materials.

In his handing over remarks, the head of the delegation Mr. Peter Gotfredsen said the donation of the items is an annual event and it started in 1997. He asserted that their students engage in fundraising activities in Denmark to buy all these materials. He noted that they were sponsoring five students (5) but that from this year, they will increase the number of sponsored students from five to ten students.

Kanimang Camara, the pioneer of the link, appealed to the Regional Education Officer to help the school with technical teachers in the school. He advised the students to acquire skills to earn better living. He asserted that they have equipped the school with metal workshop and woodwork tools and urged them to make best use of the tools.

The principal of the school, Momodou Kanji, thanked the donors for their generosity and assured them that the donated materials would be put into good use.

Mr Momodou Bah, Senior Education Officer at the Regional Education office, said the donated materials would go a long way in complementing government efforts in providing learning materials for the school. He thanked the donors and pioneers of the link for their gesture. He urged students to use the donated materials for their intended purposes.

Speakers at the occasion include, Alh Bambo Jaiteh, Jay Jay Kanteh, and Ballake Kanji.

The ceremony was chaired by Vice Principal Kekuta manneh, and the vote of thanks was delivered by Seedy Ceesay, the Head Boy of the school.
