Members of the Mosque Committee of Nema Village in Central Kiang, Lower River Region, have appealed for financial assistance from Muslims, donor agencies and NGOs, to complete the construction work at the village’s central mosque.
Work at the mosque came to a standstill three years ago, due to lack of funds. It took the villagers about a decade to erect the mosque, which is now at its finishing stages.
Speaking in an interview with the Daily Observer, Ba-Alieu Fadera, Imam of Nema Village, expressed concerns for the completion of the mosque, which has the capacity to accommodate about five hundred worshippers.
He told the Daily Observer that since the foundation stone was laid by Lamin Kabba Bajo, the then Secretary of State for Local Governments and Lands, villagers started constructing the mosque from their own earnings. However, the discontinuity of the project was due to insufficient fund.
“We have worked very hard to make sure that the mosque is completed within the shortest possible time, but this was not possible. We are also faced with family responsibilities, which we need to fulfill at all times,” he explained.
Imam Fadera told the Daily Observer that despite their desire to complete the work on time they are forced to perform their daily and Friday congregational prayers in the incomplete structure.
He then appealed to the entire Muslim Ummah to come to their rescue. Imam Alieu Fadera can be reached on mobile: 9745109/ 9851922.
