Lebanese community in The Gambia on Friday, September 28, disbursed 210 bags of rice and 110 bags of Sugar to various mosques within the Greater Banjul Area and the Western Region, at a presentation ceremony held at the Lebanese Mosque in Pipeline.
The donation was part of a traditional gesture that the community extends to Muslims, particularly during the holy month of Ramadan.
Presenting the items, on behalf of the community, Sheikh Rabir, Imam of the Lebanese community, in the Gambia, said the donated items are only meant to seek the pleasure of Allah, especially in this holy month of Ramadan.
He noted that this month is a period when people should adjust their assistance to the Muslim, especially the less privilege. He then reaffirms their resolve to continue helping Muslims, particularly in the months of Ramadan.
Receiving the gesture, Imam Baba Leigh of Kanifing Estate mosque, on behalf of the Supreme Islamic Council , elaborated on the long standing relationship that exists between the Lebanese community and the Gambian people, dating back to their forefathers. Since then, he said, the community in The Gambia have been very instrumental to the needs of poor Muslims.
While commending the community for their true and genuine friendship, Imam Leigh assured them that the gesture will go a long way towards assisting the Muslims.
Imam Sheriff Bajan, deputy Imam Ratib of Banjul, on behalf of Imam Ratib expressed similar sentiment.
