Education for All (EFA) Campaign Network, The Gambia has elected its new National Executive Committee to serve the network for the next three years.
This election was conducted during the network’s Annual General Meeting (AGM) held on the 24th and 25th May, 2007 at Paradise Suites Hotel.
The elected National Executive Committee members were; Bakary Badjie as organising Secretary, Mass Ndow as treasurer, Nyima Ceesay, Mbaye Njie and Alhgie Essa Darboe, as members of the open seat.
Adelaide Sosseh, Chairperson, Omar J.Ndure, Vice-Chairperson and Matarr Baldeh, Coordinator, were re-appointed. The chapter chairpersons were also appointed.
Delivering her statement, Adelaide Sosseh, Chairperson of the EFA Campaign Network in The Gambia described the AGM as an important milestone in the life of the EFA Network as they celebrate its five years of existence.
According to her, they stand side by side with the government more especially the Department of State for Basic and Higher Education in pursuit of the goals of the Network.
“As partners of government in the EFA movement, we endeavour to coordinate all efforts under the leadership of the government within the context of poverty reduction, education sector planning as well as sector widening approaches,” she explained.
For his part, Dr Pap Sey, Deputy Permanent Secretary, Department of State for Basic Education, said instituting a national executive committee for the network is consequently a well conceived idea. He expressed hope that the outcome of the deliberations and elections will be well received and beneficial to the network, to the education sector and the nation at large.
Dr Kujeh Manneh, Country Director, Action Aid, The Gambia, said EFA is a global commitment emanating from the World Education Forum in 2000. He added that EFA calls for universal commitment, collaboration and participation of all within the public, private, national and international sphere.
She assured them of Action-Aid’s commitment towards supporting the EFA campaign network and the promotion of education in The Gambia.
Matarr Baldeh, Co-ordinator of the EFA also presented the activity report and the ratification of the constitution.
Mr. Essa Sowe delivered the vote of thanks.
