The keenly-awaited Super Nawettan football tournament, better known as Zonal Football Championship, will kick-off this evening.

Today’s openings will feature two mouth-watering fixtures at two different grounds. The defending champions, Serrekunda East, will square-up against the 2004 champions, Sukuta, at the Serrekunda West Mini-stadium in the Group A opening. Elsewhere, the Bakau side will face their bitter rivals, Banjul, at the Serrekunda East Mini-stadium in the Group B opener.

On Thursday, November 15, the vice-champions, Brikama, will take on Gunjur in the second Group B encounter at the Serrekunda West Mini-stadium, and on the same day, Lamin and Serrekunda West will lock horns at the Serrekunda East Mini-stadium.

The organisers have, this year, vowed to stage one of the most competitive and successful tournaments in the history of super nawettan competitions, with lucrative prizes awaiting the Most Disciplined Zone, the Golden Boot Winner and the Best Player of The Tournament.

A giant trophy and a cash prize of D25, 000, await the winner and D15, 000 for the prospective runner-up, in addition to a consolation prize of D6, 000 for the remaining six zones.

While big guns like Banjul and Serrekunda West had struggled in the past seasons, many zones have this year vowed to make a difference.

One such zone is Banjul, who believes they will have nothing to lose this season.

The City Boys have been paired in Group A, alongside the defending champions, Serrekunda East, Sukuta and Bakau, while Group B feature  last year’s runners-up Brikama, Gunjur, Lamin and Serrekunda West.
