A Tallinding man, Sadibou Keita, has been finally convicted and sentenced.
Sadibou was formally charged at the Bundung Magistrates’ Court on July 19th for going round shops and accosting individuals for money under the pretext that he was drumming up the funds for the Gambia Police Force, GPF, to combat armed robbery.
He was earlier this month arrested by the police in Tallinding in possession of a paper bearing the letter head of the GPF. His arrest came hot on the heels of a report lodged at the Tallinding police station by the Alkalo of Tallinding and two others.
In his initial court appearance, Sadibou admitted guilt but the outcome of the case could not be determined following an application for adjournment by the prosecution.
Following the resumption of his case last week, magistrate B.O. Jobe sentenced him to serve a year in prisons without any option of fine.
