Guinea Win Zone II Boxing Championship

The Zone II Boxing Championship hosted in The Gambia played its finals last Saturday at the Buffer zone in Tallinding.

Guinea Conakry emerged as the champions with three gold medals, five silver, one bronze with 34 points. Senegal came out second with two gold medals, one silver and one bronze with 20 points.

Cape Verde came out third with two goal medals; one silver and one bronze collected 18 points. Sierra Leone registered fourth place with one gold, three silver and one bronze medals with 16 points while the Gambia came out fifth with a single goal, two silver and two bronze medals with 14 points.

Speaking to Pointsport the President of the Gambia Boxing Association, Sang Correa described it as a success event and thanked all those who have given them the necessary support.

He added that the African Championship would be held in Madagascar in May, where only the gold and silver medallists from the just concluded Zone II Championship would take part.

He revealed that the All-African and Olympic games would take place in Algeria and Beijing, China respectively.

It could be recalled that Mali was the only country that could not make it to the Gambia. Sierra Leone will host the next Zone II.
