The Armitage Senior Secondary School recently inaugurated their new Board of Governors, which comprises thirteen (13) members, chaired by Kaunding Tambedou.
Both Alhagie Kanjie Touray, Regional Governor and Hon. Foday Jibani Manka, National Assembly Member for the area, are members of the Board, while Ebrima Joof, Principal of the School serves as the Secretary- General.
In an interview with the Daily Observer, Governor Ganyi Touray, said the new Board of Governors, have a big challenge that lies ahead of them and then urged them to take up the challenges seriously. He stated that Armitage is one of the oldest Senior Secondary Schools in the region, and is well-known for its academic performance.
He further assured that, the new Board of Governors, together with the staff of the school, will strive hard to ameliorate the academic performance of the school.
Governor Touray then emphasised that Armitage Senior Secondary School, is the only boarding school that feeds over six hundred students- three times in a day.
“This is a mammoth task that needs the attention of all the well-wishers and philanthropists,” he urged.
Ebrima Joof, Principal of Armitage Senior Secondary School, said the role of the Board of Governors, is to help in the overall management of the school, in order to acquire quality and relevant education.
According to him, a school is an institution where one is prepared mentally, and to take up the challenges ahead.
He further noted that “the education they give at Armitage, is geared towards not only to ensure the full realisation of academic and aesthetic potential of the learners, but to also encourage the formation, development and maturity of their personality, character and moral values”.
“As the motto implies ‘enter to learn, go forth to serve,’ the students will be prepared to go out and take their proper place in the society to which they belong and be useful citizens in it,” he added.
Mr Joof then commended all donors for their laudable gesture, particularly, the Gambia Ports Authority (GPA), Department of State for Education (DOSE), North Bromsgrove School, and Dr Cooker of Banjul Pharmacy.
