At least six scout officials from the Gambia Scout Association recently returned from the United Kingdom, after attending a two-week celebration of the scout centenary. The members comprised Momodou-Mendy, Musa Jawla, Babucarr Jammeh, Madi Jammeh, Momodou.S.Bah and Babou Njie.

Confirming this to the Daily Observer, Alhaji Player, National Executive Commissioner, Gambia Scout Association, said that the programme, which brought together more than 40,000 scouts from 220 countries all over the world, was earmarked for discussing issues that affect the life of scouts in the continent.

According to him, during the course of the programme, they had one of the biggest events, called the Sunrise ceremony, in which all scouts put on their uniforms to renew their promises.

He added that the Gambian Scouts were also put under International Service Team (IST). “This consists of 10,000 scouts, who are 18 years and above, both male and female. Their role is to see the smooth running of their camps,” he said.

He added that some of the issues discussed in the scout jamboree, among others, included, why are some African Scout not involved in the development of scouting and why is it that some of these scouts did not attend some of these programmes.

“We have lots of training and workshops on HIV/Aids and many other related issues. After the whole programme, we had a two-week home hospitality,” he concluded.
