President Yahya Jammeh has expressed his intention to electrify the whole of The Gambia. Speaking at State House on Friday where he received Mr Luke Chang, the president of Motech Industries of Taiwan, President Jammeh expressed the belief that solar energy has the capacity to provide long term solution to the country’s electricity problem, says GRTS.
“What we want is to electrify the country. My objective is to electrify the whole country because I promised the Gambian people that I want to turn The Gambia in to a city state,” he said.
He stated that with the availability of solar energy in rural areas the trend of rural-urban migration would be reduced.
Mr Chang was accompanied to State House by the Taiwanese ambassador to The Gambia, Dr Patrick Chang.
