Tawto Village, in Kombo North, is to benefit from a five million Dalasis school project.
The project, comprising a nursery and primary school, is sponsored by Join Hands UK, a group of Gambians in the United Kingdom, formed to help Gambians in need in the UK and also promote community projects back home in The Gambia.
The foundation stone for the project was laid last Saturday by Alhaji Demba Sanyang, the paramount Chief.
The Project Director and Treasurer of the Organization, Ms. Marie Madeline Gomez, disclosed that the Tawto school project is the group’s second project in The Gambia since it was formed in 2002, and is estimated at over five million Dalasis.
She indicated that they are starting with the nursery school followed by the primary school. She added that they are hoping to provide a health centre for the village in the near future.
Speaking on Wednesday at the farewell party organized for the members of Opportunity Gambia, a youth group formed in Kent, UK, to provide support to The Gambia, Ms Margaret Medland, a retired Assistant County Youth Officer in Kent, UK, who owns a compound in Tawto, revealed that not only are these young people giving their labour, but they also have taken the extra mile by giving D86,000 to the Join Hands UK towards the materials needed for fencing the perimeter of the proposed nursery and primary school.
The farewell party was graced by Honorable Adama Cham, the National Assembly Member for the area and a cross section of the villagers.
