Alleged Drug Trafficker Fails to Show Up in Court

Tuesday, January 8, 2008

Ilida Darboso, a Nigerian national, could not show up in court last Thursday for the continuation of her trial over drug trafficking charges.

Ilida is currently in custody at the State Central Prison in Banjul following her arrest at the Banjul International Airport after a botched alleged drug smuggling attempt in 2007.

On the resumption of the case last Thursday, Abdoulie Ceesay, representing the National Drug Enforcement Agency, explained that the prosecution was making an application to the court to adjourn the case because the suspect had gone to the RVTH to receive medical attention for an injury she had sustained. He further noted that it would be equally germane to adjourn the case because the defense counsel was absent from court and that he wasn’t convinced whether the counsel was informed of the resumption of the case.

Consequently, the case was adjourned till 17 January for continuationl.
