Defence Counsel Urges Bail Condition Review in Manlanfi Sanyang’s Case

Wednesday, March 12, 2008

Lawyer Lamin Camara, the defence counsel for Manlanfi Sanyang on Monday called on the Banjul Magistrates’ Court applied to revisit the bail condition granted to his client Ex-Superintendent Manlanfi Sanyang.

Lawyer Camara argued that his client is still in detention because he is unable to fulfill the bail condition imposed on him by the court.

When the case of Manlanfi Sanyang and Lt. Bakary was called, the police prosecutor Inspector Touray told the court that the prosecution would like to consolidate the charge sheets with that of the Italian national Demonico Fedeli. As a result, he applied for both cases to be adjourned.

Lawyer Camara, did not object to the adjournment, but pressed for a speedy trial as his clients are still in detention.

It will be recalled that Manlanfi Sanyang is charged with stealing a motor vehicle with registration number BJl 4591B in June 2002 being state property. Lt. Bakary Camara on the other hand is charged with stealing a motor vehicle with registration number BJl 4063 B, being state property. He is also charged with giving false information to a public officer.

The case was adjourned until 12 March 2008 for continuation.
