Basse Area Council Goes On Trial

Monday, January 21, 2008

The Basse Area Council is currently undergoing trial as the D26,000 owed to one Sarjo Saine by the Council, is still a subject of legal tussle at the Kanifing Magistrates’ Court.

Sarjo Saine has filed a suit against the Basse Area Council for the recovery of D26,000, being money owed him by the Council over a sale transaction. Mr. Saine is also claiming D5000 for breach of contract, interest at the rate of 30 per cent from March 2004 to the date of judgment, and court costs.

The case resumed on 15 January before magistrate Cecilia Jahateh for continuation. At Monday sitting, the court was informed by counsel Mary Itekep that Basse Area Council will, at the end of January, pay Saine the money due, a proposal not disputed by Edu Gomez, counsel to the plaintiff.
