Biblical Story tellers Give Certificates

Friday, March 14, 2008

Members of the Network of Biblical Storytellers from America yesterday awarded certificates to Christians who trained in the art of telling Biblical stories at the Shalom Retreat Centre at Fajara.

The certificates were presented at the end of three-day training for telling stories with purpose, especially Bible stories.  There were 77 Christians from different churches in The Gambia who trained to tell stories of the Bible in their various churches.

According to Rev. Dr. Thomas Bomershine, the founder of the Network of Bible Storytellers from the United States, it was a worthwhile venture to see many people train in the art of telling stories. “You are now empowered to go out and tell stories of the Bible and to let people get the meaning of what you portray to them. I am honoured and I hope you will put your skills into actions and keep the Word alive.”

After the certification Mrs. Juliana J. Rowe, the chairperson of the occasion, called out 25 members who were appointed to be leaders of their various churches to head their Network of Storytellers. They were given files that contained the materials for use and to set up their groups on a good footing. These 25 members were commissioned by Mrs. Rowe who said, “Go out and spread the Good News by telling the Stories far and wide, believing that you are commissioned to do that.”

Dr. Tracy explained how to start the Bible Storytelling groups and ordered the leaders to be vigilant and come for meetings to decide.

Certificates were distributed by Rev. Norman Grigg of the Methodist Mission.
