Principal Magistrate Moses Richards of the Kanifing Magistrates’ Court yesterday convicted and sentenced one Wally Sey to pay a fine of one thousand five hundred dalasis, or to serve six months in prison in Janjanbureh.
He had been arraigned before Principal Magistrate Richards on a charge of being in possession of an American Express Traveller’s cheque of six hundred pounds sterling.
The traveller’s cheque was part of bank robbery booty in the United Kingdom.
The numbers of the cheque had already been sent to the Standard Chartered Bank in the Gambia and its sister bank in England.
Mr Sey pleaded guilty to the charge levelled against him. He had told the police earlier that one Alhagie Jammeh of Bakau had given him the cheque.
