Gorillas Named Best Team in Ziguinchor Friendly

The league champions of the Gambia Volleyball Association, Gorillas Volleyball Club has been awarded the best Volleyball team in a just concluded international friendly tournament held in Ziguinchor.

The tournament which featured 12 teams including ten male and two female showcased teams from the sub-region, namely: Mauritania, Mali, Senegal, Guinea Conakry, and The Gambia.

The tournament was divided into two groups of five with the Gorillas of The Gambia pit alongside the University of St Louis, Asfa, CSE and Guinea Conakry.

Out of four matches played, the Gorillas defeated University of St Louis and Asfa, and lost to Guinea and CSE respectively.

The final was won by CSE after beating Guinea.

Musa Cassa Taal, President of The Gambia Volleyball Association, said The Gambia was highly honoured during the Ziguinchor sports integration festival. He said the GVBA was a pioneer of this friendly international tournament citing 20 years ago when he was coaching the Youth Front Volleyball team.

He said the event, which started with only two clubs, has now attracted participants from the sub-region and even military personnel are also now participating.

The youngest coach of the tournament award was given to Alhagie Ceesay, alias Nature, of the Gorillas.
