Magistrate Jawo Gets Tough

Tuesday, February 5, 2008

Magistrate Buba Jawo of the Kanifing Magistrates’ Court was a tough man late last week when he handed down a D50,000 court fine to one Basiru for assault, occasioning actual bodily harm.

He was also fined D10,000 for subjecting one Abdoulie Tabally to physical attack with intent to steal money from him. Failure of fine payments may mean, Basiru would serve two jail terms and the sentences would run concurrently.

According to 1295 Jallow, prosecuting, the convict had lied to him by alleging that he was a student of ICE Senior Secondary School and that he had no intention to steal from the complainant.
