President Jammeh Speaks on Discipline for Schools

As part of the activities marking International Children’s Day of Broadcasting, a unique day set aside for children, the President Dr Yahya Jammeh has spoken of his Governments commitment to the welfare and protection of children. He made his remarks at the State House recently where a contingent of school children paid a courtesy call on him.

President Jammeh also advised Gambian children to strive harder to attain the right education. He said this kind of education, present in the governments new education policies, would build capacity for quality assurance.

He also noted that education with discipline lays the foundation for the development of the socio-economic activity of any nation.

President Jammeh also spoke of his commitment to continue to strengthen the welfare of children by protecting them from exploitation and abuse. He emphasised this point saying that children are the future leaders of the nation and that the development of the nation lies with them.

In his speech the Gambian leader hailed Africa as the richest continent in mineral resources and the cradle of human civilisation. For this reason he said that all Africans must unite but pointed out that it would not be easy.

Dr Jammeh reiterated his call for African leaders to come together and unite Africa. He used to occasion to remind those gathered that he continues to treat asthma and HIV/AIDS and wishes to make his treatment available to all Africans.

For their parts, Nenneh Macdoull Gaye, Secretary of State for Information Technology and Madame Zaineb Jammeh both thanked Dr Jammeh for making the ICD a successful one for children. Secretary Gaye also thanked the children for their attentiveness during President Jammeh’s contribution.

The management and staff of GRTS and the children all thanked the President for his support of the children’s day of broadcasting every year. The vote of thanks was given by Omar Sey, a student from the Glory Baptist School.
