Basse-based Businessman Resorts to Court

Tuesday, January 15, 2008

Kemo Dibbasey, a Basse-based businessman, is now resorting to the law-courts for recovery of D1.7m and CFA 55m.

Mr Dibbasey, a dealer in petroleum and building materials, has on Thursday traveled down from Basse to Kombo to give evidence in the matter that has now become a subject of litigation in the Kanifing Magistrates’ Court.

In his testimony, the complainant explained that he was sometime last year approached by Amadou Busseh Jallow, one of the accused persons, that he [accused] wanted an amount of D2 million to clear some goods.

“Amadou Busseh said the goods were sent from Dakar but got stuck in Dakar and therefore, needed the money to clear them. I informed him that I had no money but he kept on applying pressure until I directed him to collect the money from one Lamin Jallow in Dakar. However, several attempts to recover the money when payment was due proved futile,” said Dibbasey.

“To make matters worse, he demanded another CFA 46 m to facilitate the sale of his goods.”

The case resumes 23 January for more testimonies.
